Did Peter understand the Body of Christ, and do most people today understand the believer's position in Christ?
Peter never fully understood the whole story of the Body of Christ, and most people today do not comprehend the believer's position in Christ. Believers are already seated in the heavenlies, awaiting being taken up into union with Christ Himself.
Les explains that in 1 Corinthians 12, by one Spirit every believer—regardless of station, Jew or Gentile, bond or free—is baptized into the Body of Christ and made to drink of the same Spirit. He notes Peter never got the whole story of this, and most people today still do not comprehend the believer's position in Christ. That position is already seated in the heavenlies, waiting for the day of being taken up into the heavenlies in union with Christ Himself. In verse 27 believers are the Body of Christ in total yet members in particular, retaining identity; God knows each by name, not by number. In Ephesians 1, Christ is raised and set at God's right hand in the heavenlies, far above all principality, power, might, dominion, and every name—so when He is in heaven, believers are in heaven.
