Can human beings fully understand God's eternal purpose of grace?
No, human beings cannot fully understand God's eternal purpose of grace. Scripture reveals it is past finding out and beyond human comprehension, yet it is taught in the Bible and must be believed. God's purpose was given in Christ before the ages began, according to His own purpose and grace, not works.
Les explains that 2 Timothy 1:9 says God saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace. That purpose was given us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, as also seen in Acts 2 and Ephesians 1. Les calls this mind-boggling: the eternal purpose of the Creator God, who created everything for His own purpose, that everything would redound to His glory. Yet we work into that purpose by being recipients of His grace and mercy, made partakers by simple faith in the gospel. Les stresses it is past finding out and past human understanding, but the Bible teaches it and we better believe it.
