What is God's purpose for all things in Christ?
God's purpose is to consummate everything according to His predetermined counsel, bringing all things together in Christ. That counsel was determined in eternity past by the Godhead so that earth would be created, man given free will to respond to His love or reject it, and all brought to fulfillment in Christ.
Les teaches that all these things will come together in Christ to fulfill the purpose of Him who works everything, or consummates everything, according to the counsel—an agreement of ideas. He connects this to Acts 2, where Peter at Pentecost declares Jesus of Nazareth as a man approved of God by miracles, wonders, and signs, and delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God. That counsel took place in eternity past, perhaps billions of years ago, when the Godhead determined that earth would be created to be inhabited, man would be placed on it, and man would be given a free will choice to respond to God's love or reject it. To bring it to a consummation, God went to that. It was all in fulfillment of that predetermined counsel of the Godhead. Les then moves on to 2 Timothy.
