Why does Les keep putting Bible verses on the screen instead of relying on what he says?
He puts Scripture on the screen to keep authority on God’s Word rather than human words or personal revelation. Since the printed Scriptures are complete, the test is what the Book says, not what any teacher says or thinks; the Word itself, not a man’s claims, must feed a hungry heart.
Les explains that once the printed Scriptures came into being and the New Testament was complete, there is no longer a need for men specially gifted to relay God’s Word. He recounts a phone call where a man claimed he alone had received the true Word and accused Les of teaching men’s words. Les rejected that, saying the camera constantly puts the Scriptures on the screen because that is the Word of God, not what someone supposedly received. He stresses it does not matter what he says or thinks; what matters is what the Book says. He prefers the Word of God on the screen, and notes even Tyndale wanted Scriptures in the hands of every plow boy, sufficient to feed a hungry heart.
