Les Feldick Bible Study

Does Les use commentaries when teaching the Bible?

He does not use commentaries when teaching the Bible. He states he is not a user of commentaries and does not even own any, having been warned long ago to beware of them. He may consult a couple books given by theologians, but he avoids commentaries.

Les explains that he does not use commentaries and does not own any, having been warned long ago to beware of them. He relates a saying that commentaries are nothing but commentators, and commentators are just commentators—a line he says requires a Southern ear to appreciate. He does mention having a couple books given to him by two great theologians, one British and one American, both now with the Lord and used of God. He looked at what they said about Romans chapter 8 and the word 'therefore,' noting one PhD said the 'therefore' goes back to Romans 5:1 rather than chapter 7. Even so, he avoids commentaries as a rule.
