Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does Les tell people to read the Scripture carefully after he answers their questions?

Careful Scripture reading is urged because Bible study is not meant to be glossed over or done superficially. If a Scripture answer is read merely for the sake of reading, the reader will not grasp the intended meaning; careful, slow attention is required to understand what the text is teaching.

Les teaches that his answers are exhaustive because none of this can be glossed over or taken lightly. The whole idea of Bible study, he says, is to read carefully. Many people just read and say they have read their Bible, but that is not the way; they must read it carefully. When he answers a question that comes in the mail, he answers with Scripture and tells the person to read it carefully, because if they just read to be reading, they will not get what he is trying to tell them. He applies the same approach to Romans 8, taking it slowly and carefully because that chapter is the gemstone of Romans, and Romans is the gemstone of the Bible.
