What is the overall purpose of the Bible from beginning to end?
From cover to cover, the Bible's overarching purpose is that mankind might hear the plan of salvation. This divine purpose is consistent throughout Scripture, as seen when the Holy Spirit enabled men to speak in understandable languages at Pentecost and when God directed Peter to bring the Gospel to Cornelius.
Les teaches that the whole purpose of this book, from cover to cover, is that mankind might hear the plan of salvation. The miraculous work of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, when Peter and the other eleven men promoted the Gospel that Jesus was the Christ in languages everyone could understand, had a divine purpose: to bring salvation. Later, in Acts chapter 10, God had a distinct divine purpose in forcing Peter to go to the house of Cornelius, a Gentile Roman, even though Peter said it was unlawful for a Jew to enter another nation's house. As Peter preached Jesus as Israel's Messiah, Redeemer, and King, he did not realize God was now moving to go out to the Gentile world. This same saving purpose runs through the entire Bible.
