Who should desire to prophesy and to whom?

Every believer should desire to prophesy, which means speaking forth the Word of God rather than predicting the future. That desire should be directed toward sharing Scripture with fellow believers who need teaching and with unbelievers still in darkness, asking the Lord to use them.

Les explains that after pursuing love, believers should desire spiritual things, but not ask for a specific gift; the Holy Spirit decides that. Of all the gifts, the one every believer should desire is prophesy. Les clarifies that prophesy here is not foretelling the future as Daniel or Isaiah did, but simply speaking and sharing the Word of God. The believer should want that ability to share God's Word with believers who need teaching or with unbelievers still in darkness, and to ask the Lord for the opportunity to speak forth His Word.

1 Corinthians 14:1

Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
