What is a simple analogy for what salvation means?
Salvation means being saved from something. A simple analogy is a man nearly bankrupt who receives an inheritance from a rich uncle, gets back on his feet, and is saved from bankruptcy. In the same way, we are saved from eternal doom through the Gospel.
Les teaches that salvation is a Scriptural word, not a denominational one. He explains that to be saved means to be saved from something. He uses the analogy of a man who is about to go broke and cannot pay all his debts. Then a rich uncle dies and wills him a whole bunch of money, and suddenly he is back on his feet. That inheritance was his salvation because it saved him from bankruptcy. Les says it is the same word for us: we are saved from an eternal doom, and this Gospel is our salvation. He also warns to keep in memory what was preached, lest you believe in vain, and to know what you believe.
