Les Feldick Bible Study

Was Jesus tempted in every way we are, and did He ever sin?

Yes. Scripture teaches He was tempted or tested in every point and situation believers face, yet He remained without sin. Where people fall and fail, He did not. Because He was sinless and perfect, He can sympathize and invites believers to come boldly to the throne of grace.

Les teaches that Jesus was in all points tempted or tested like we are, but where we fall and fail, He did not. He was without sin. Because He was sinless and perfect, yet tasted every situation we come up against, the invitation is to come boldly into God's presence. Les illustrates this as God's open door policy: we can come into the very throne room at any time, day or night, boldly, to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. He then directs attention to 1 John 2, starting verse 15, to consider the points in which He was tested like as we are.

Hebrews 4:15

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

More Questions

In what sense did Jesus experience every temptation?

When Scripture says Jesus tasted every temptation, it means He experienced every category of temptation, not every individual temptation a person faces.

How can Jesus have tasted every temptation if He did not face each individual one?

Jesus tasted every temptation not as individual temptations but by categories, because every temptation belongs to one of the three categories.

How can Hebrews 4:15 say Jesus was tempted in every way if He did not face every specific temptation?

Jesus experienced every temptation not individually but by category, so Hebrews 4:15 is true that He was tempted in all ways we face.

What is the difference between Jesus' temptations and our temptations?

The difference between Jesus and us is that He was tempted in all points just as we are, but whereas we fall into temptation, He did not fall.
