Did Jesus give in to temptation like we do?
No. The high priest can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, having been tempted in all points like we are, yet where we fall, He did not. He has gone through every category of temptation common to man, so He understands our weakness without yielding to sin.
Les explains that the negative statement “we have not a high priest who cannot be touched” should be turned positive: we have a high priest who can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He was in all points tempted like as we are, but whereas we fall, He didn’t. Les then connects this to 1 Corinthians 10:13, where no temptation has taken believers but such as is common to man. No one can claim a unique temptation, because Christ Himself has already gone through every category of temptation that we face.
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
