How did God lose His chosen people Israel?

God lost His chosen people Israel when Joseph’s brothers sinned, leading Joseph down to Egypt. While Joseph was in Egypt and the other brothers remained in rebellion, God lost control of them. He would later buy them back through the blood of the Passover lamb.

Les teaches that all of Scripture repeatedly presents the idea of something owned that was lost—or 'hopped' as a better word today. The nation of Israel were God’s covenant people until, because of the brothers’ sin, Joseph ended up down in Egypt. While Joseph was in Egypt and the other brethren were in rebellion, God lost His chosen people; He had lost control of them. Therefore He had to buy them back, and that is what the book of Exodus is all about—a book of redemption. He bought them back through the blood of the Passover lamb. Les applies this same pattern to us today: just as the Israelites in Egypt rested on the blood of the lamb on the door, we also rest on that blood, even as Gentiles in this Age of Grace. Romans 3:23 says all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, so every human being in his natural state is separated from God because he has fallen short and cannot meet God’s standard. But we are not left hopeless, because verse 24 says that even though all have sinned, we can be justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
