Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does there have to be blood if Christ is our Passover lamb?

The Passover required the shedding of the lamb's blood, which was applied to the doorposts so God would see it and pass over, and the death angel would not strike the firstborn. Therefore, if Christ is our Passover lamb, blood is necessary because the whole idea was the shedding and application of the lamb's blood.

Les teaches that when God said, “When I see the blood on those door posts, I will pass over your house,” the death angel would not strike the firstborn. As Jewish families stood in their little hovels around the kitchen table with the Passover lamb roasted, they partook of it for strength for their journey. Les emphasizes that when they knew the blood was out on the door post, they did not shake with fear all that night, because by faith they knew the blood had kept them secure and the death angel would never strike them. They were safe and secure. Then, concerning the blood, Paul says in Romans that Christ was our Passover, and so again, if there is a Passover lamb, there has to be blood, because the whole idea was the shedding of the lamb's blood that it could be stricken on the door post. Romans chapter 3 is the doctrinal ground, not just an example, but the real thing.
