Why did the blood of Christ have to be shed?
The blood of Christ had to be shed to pay the price of redemption required for God to get control of fallen man. The blood of bulls and calves only covered Israel's sins, but Christ's blood paid the full redemption price, and it has been paid in full.
Les explains that Hebrews constantly compares the earthly tabernacle and its sacrifices with something far better in heaven. The earthly tabernacle was beautiful and functional, patterned after something in heaven. The blood of bulls and calves did its work, covering Israel's sins, but it was nothing compared to the blood of Christ. Christ's blood paid the redemption price that had to be paid for God to get control of fallen man, and it has been paid in full.
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
