Les Feldick Bible Study

What did God say He would do to Egypt on the night of the Passover?

God said He would pass through Egypt that night, smite all the firstborn in the land, both man and beast, and execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt, because He is sovereign and is the Lord. This was the final plague on Pharaoh's Egypt.

Les explains that this was the last plague to fall on Pharaoh's Egypt, the plague of the death angel. God declared that He would pass through the land that night and smite all the firstborn, both man and beast, and execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt. The blood on the two door posts and lintel was to be a token upon the houses. Les points out that the doorposts and lintel formed the outline of the cross, which God had in mind. The reason God could execute this judgment is that He is Sovereign and declares, "I am the Lord."

Exodus 12:12

For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
