What did Moses prophesy about a prophet like himself?

Moses prophesied that the Lord God would raise up a prophet from the children of Israel’s brethren, like unto himself—one who would deliver Israel even as Moses did. He said this prophet would be like him, and him the people shall hear.

Les explains that Stephen is trying to prove to Israel that Jesus was the Christ. He cites Moses in Acts 7:37, who prophetically said to the children of Israel that the Lord their God would raise up a prophet from their brethren like unto him—someone who would deliver Israel even as Moses did. Stephen then identifies that promised one as Jesus of Nazareth in verse 38. He says this is the one who was in the church, the Ecclesia or called-out assembly of the children of Israel in the wilderness with the angel who spoke with him at Mount Sinai, and who received the living oracles, the Law. Les also notes that when God called Israel out of Egypt, He brought them through a Red Sea experience, a baptism without a drop of water, and they became a church without any church organization; church here means a called-out assembly.

Acts 7:37
