Why did some of the saved Corinthians still lack comprehension of the true God compared to idols?

Some saved Corinthians still lacked comprehension because they were weak and young in the faith, still influenced by pagan superstition and a conscience trained toward idols. Though saved, they had not yet grasped the true God's power compared to powerless idols, so they retained reservations about eating meat offered to idols.

Les explains that even though these Corinthians were saved, they still did not have the comprehension of our God compared to the powerless gods of idols. Paul goes on to say that not every man has that knowledge: some, with conscience of the idol unto that hour, ate meat as a thing offered unto an idol, and their weak conscience was defiled. Les clarifies that these were weak, young-in-the-faith believers. They knew where the meat had gone before it got to their table, so they had reservations about eating it. In a pagan society, he notes, religious leaders kept people under control by saturating them with superstition.

1 Corinthians 8:7

Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
