What became Mary Beth's number one burden after she was saved?
After Mary Beth was saved gloriously and came to know the Lord, her husband John became her number one burden. He had more than one mistress, and she knew it. She later wept at a wedding, saying simply, “My husband John.”
Les explains that Mary Beth first came to the young people’s Bible study, and over a few weeks she was saved gloriously and came to know the Lord. Later, when Les and Iris attended a wedding sixty miles away, Mary Beth met them in the church lobby weeping. When asked what was wrong, she said, “My husband John.” Les notes that John had more than one mistress, and Mary Beth knew it; as a result of her salvation, John became her number one burden. Les says he showed her two or three New Testament verses and told her it would not be easy, but if she could do it, God would do it, and she said she was willing to try. He advised her to do what she knew John liked, such as having a good T-bone steak ready once in a while, rather than following the book’s suggestion to meet him at the door in seductive negligee.
