What was Paul's one driving motivation in ministry?
Paul's single consuming purpose in ministry was to see lost people saved. He made himself a servant or bond slave to all, refusing to exploit his apostolic responsibility for material reward, so that he might gain the more and bring Gentiles and Jews out of lostness into salvation.
Les teaches that Paul’s one driving desire and motivation was to see lost people saved. In 1 Corinthians 9:19 Paul says that though he was free from all, he made himself a servant or bond slave of all so that he might gain the more. Earlier he points to the Corinthians themselves as proof of his apostleship, since they had been saved out of abject paganism through his preaching. He also refused to take advantage of his tremendous responsibility by taking a lot of material reward, even though in Judaism he had profited more than his equals as a Pharisee of the Pharisee. During the Acts period, Paul wrote to the churches in Asia Minor and Greece to complete the Body of Christ, bringing Gentiles and some Jews out of their lostness into a knowledge of salvation.
For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
