What overcame the death of Christ?
The power of the resurrection overcame the death of Christ. Though He suffered and died for us as members of His Body, God raised Him from the dead. That resurrection power conquered death, enabling Him to become head of the Church and unite believers with Himself.
Les explains that in order for Christ to become the head of you and I as members of the Body, He had to die. He had to suffer and die for us. Yet the power of the resurrection overcame that death. This fits the marriage analogy used in the context: believers are united with Christ just as a husband and wife are joined, and He is the head of the Church. The same self-sacrificial love is the pattern for husbands, who should be ready to die for their wives if necessary.
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
