Is it scripturally correct to call Jesus our King?
Scripture in this context indicates it is not correct to call Jesus our King. Paul never refers to Him as King of the Church; He is the Head of the Body, and believers are joint heirs, not subjects. He will return as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, but the Church rules with Him.
Les teaches that you cannot find anywhere that Paul refers to the Lord as the King of the Church. He says it is just not scripturally right to refer to Him as our King, though most people do. Instead, Christ is the Head of the Body, and believers are not His subjects but joint heirs with Him. A king rules over subjects, but the Church is in a different position. Les acknowledges that He will still come as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, but the Church will be ruling and reigning with Him, not under Him. The Church is the universal compilation of believers brought into the Body of Christ by the Holy Spirit, in union with Him and joint heirs with Him.
