How did the worship of the goddesses compare with the worship of the male gods?
The worship of the goddesses was even worse than the worship of the male gods, because it was accompanied by gross immorality that pervaded everyday life. This immorality was part and parcel of their experience, from common people to the top.
Les teaches that the worship of the goddesses was even worse than the worship of the male gods, and that along with it was gross immorality. He points out that this gross immorality was part and parcel of their everyday experience; they didn't know any different. It wasn't just the common people but all the way to the top. This wasn't just Corinth, it was the whole ancient world. They lived to appease their gods and goddesses. Then coming back to 1 Corinthians chapter 3, he says, "...such were some of you, but now you're washed." Just like Peter and the other ten men, these Corinthians had their salvation, they were washed of their sins and iniquity. And what does it always boil down to? As Paul said in Romans chapter 3, where sin abounded, God's grace is always greater if the individual wants to partake of it.
