Les Feldick Bible Study

What did Les teach about female goddess worship in pagan cultures?

He taught that pagan worship of female goddesses was grossly immoral wherever it appeared—Egypt, Babylon, Greece, or Rome. Israel was burning incense to the queen of heaven, committing spiritual adultery by chasing pagan gods. Such idolatrous worship involved drink offerings and abandonment of the Lord, as Jeremiah 44 describes.

Les explains from Jeremiah 44 that the Jews told Jeremiah they would certainly do whatever came out of their own mouths, burning incense to the queen of heaven. Les points out that when pagan, idolatrous worship turns to female goddesses, nothing is ever as grossly immoral—whether in Egypt, Babylon, Greece, or Rome. Israel was involved in this spiritual adultery, pouring out drink offerings to her as they, their fathers, their kings, and their princes had done. They even claimed that since they left off burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, they had wanted all things.
