Should a Christian take a fellow believer to court?

Paul instructs believers not to take a fellow Christian to court. Church disputes should be settled within the body of believers, before the saints, not before the unjust. Going to worldly lawyers and courts is wrong for such matters. However, there may come a point when the world's judicial system must be used.

Les explains from 1 Corinthians chapter 6 that the Corinthian believers were taking their disputes with fellow church members to worldly lawyers and courts instead of bringing them before the local church body, pastor, elders, or deacons. Paul asks, "Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust and not before the saints?" Les emphasizes that Paul is saying, "Don't go to the world's lawyers and the courts with your problem. Keep it within the confines of the believers." He also notes, however, that there comes a point when a believer may have to go to the world's judicial system. The normal biblical pattern is internal resolution among believers.
