Should Christians take each other to court?

Paul instructs believers not to take a fellow believer to law before the unjust instead of the saints. Disputes should stay within the local church, before the pastor, leadership, elders, or deacons. However, there comes a point when one may have to go to the world's judicial system.

Les teaches that the Corinthian church, though born again and brought out of paganism, was plagued with problems, and these are recorded because we have the same problems today. In chapter 6, Paul asks, "Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust and not before the saints?" These Corinthians had gotten into a real wrangle with a fellow church member, and instead of taking it to the local church body or to the pastor and church leadership, elders, or deacons, they were going to the lawyers and the courts. Paul says, "Don't go to the world's lawyers and the courts with your problem. Keep it within the confines of the believers." Les also notes that there comes a point when you may have to go to the world's judicial system, as he dealt with back in Romans.
