Is the work of propitiation still appropriate, and for whose sins did God do it?
Yes, the work of propitiation remains appropriate. God has done this tremendous work not for our sins only but for the sins of the whole world. Christ died for everyone, though not everyone will be saved, because not everyone will appropriate it; the potential is there.
Les explains that every aspect of the tabernacle—its gold, silver, stones, and composition—pictured the work of salvation Christ accomplished at the cross, which he calls propitiation. That work included Christ’s high priestly work, the shed blood of the sacrifice, and His interceding in the Holy of Holies. Les says it is still appropriate, and it is not for ours only; God did it for the sins of the whole world. He notes someone argued Christ died only for the believer, but Les cannot agree, because the Bible says Christ died for everyone. Not everyone will be saved, because not everyone will appropriate it, but the potential is there.
