What happens to the physical health of a drug addict who never gets free from their addiction?
If a drug addict never gets free from addiction, their physical health will be utterly destroyed. The same pattern applies to alcoholism, which eventually destroys the liver and whole physical well-being, and to cigarettes, which medical science has shown harm the body similarly. Abusing the body with harmful substances brings physical consequences.
Les teaches that unless a person is fortunate enough to be drawn out of a drug problem and broken of it, it will utterly destroy their physical health. He compares this to the alcoholic, who sooner or later will have his liver and whole physical well-being destroyed, and to cigarettes, which medical science has proven do much the same. Les says if you harm the physical body with things you know are harmful, it will suffer the consequences, and we see it all around. He also recounts a Good Morning America interview with the president of the American Hospital Association, who said Americans could lower skyrocketing medical costs simply by stopping the things that harm their bodies. The doctor noted that roughly 70% of hospital beds are occupied by people there because of drinking, smoking, drugs, or venereal diseases. Les concludes hospital beds are filled with people who abused their physical bodies with harmful things, and that is what the Bible is telling us.
