Les Feldick Bible Study

Are all sins forgiven past, present, and future for believers?

Yes. When a believer comes under the forgiveness provided by Christ's death, burial, and resurrection, everything is forgiven—past, present, and future. Every trespass has been paid for, not by human works but by what Christ accomplished. The believer will never come into God's presence with sin, because it has all been forgiven.

Les explains from Galatians 2:20 that Paul's statement about being crucified with Christ reflects the very function of the Gospel: Christ died for the sins of the world, was buried, and rose from the dead. Les emphasizes, more strongly than ever, that when we come under that forgiveness, we are forgiven everything—past, present, and future. The believer will never come into the presence of God with sin, so to speak, because it has all been paid for. Les admits this is beyond human comprehension, but he believes it because the Book teaches that we have been forgiven all our trespasses, not because of anything we have done, but because of what Christ accomplished on our behalf. This makes the Gospel simple yet complex, and it will not be fully understood this side of glory. Paul then says that although he is crucified by identification with Christ's death, yet he lives, and the life he now lives in the flesh is lived by faith—which Les prefers to call the faithfulness of the Son of God.
