Why should Christians be careful and meticulous in how they build on the foundation?
Christians should be careful and meticulous because their section of the wall will be examined someday by the fiery eyes of the Lord Jesus. Since Paul laid the foundation and believers continue building on it, each person’s work is added to that building and must face the Lord’s scrutiny.
Les teaches that Paul was the master builder who started the foundation, and ordinary believers have been building on that foundation for nearly 2,000 years, from about AD 29 or 30 to the present. We are adding to that building. He illustrates this as mixing mortar and laying brick in a wall, and we must be meticulous in how we build because our section of the wall is going to be examined someday by the fiery eyes of the Lord Jesus. As we embark on the Christian walk, God gives us six materials to build with.
Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
