Les Feldick Bible Study

Are believers involved in building on the foundation of Christ?

Yes. Paul teaches that believers are part and parcel of building on the foundation that is Christ, the hope of salvation. In everyday Christian experience, anyone may build on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or stubble.

Les explains that no other foundation can be laid than Jesus Christ, and that Paul, other apostles, and the Old Testament prophets all built upon it. He makes plain that believers are part and parcel of building on that foundation, which is Christ and the hope of salvation. Then Les brings it down to the nitty-gritty of everyday Christian experience: if anyone builds on this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or stubble. Six materials are listed—three are indestructible by fire or anything else, while wood, hay, and stubble can go up in a puff of smoke. All six are potential materials for the Christian to use in daily experience.

1 Corinthians 3:11

For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
