How should believers build on the foundation of Jesus Christ?
Believers build on Jesus Christ by taking heed how they build, since He alone is the foundation of salvation and the Christian life. They labor together with God, are His building and husbandry, and are created in Christ Jesus to practice and walk in the good works God ordained.
Les explains that in 1 Corinthians chapter 3, beginning at verse 9, Paul is dealing with the works part of the Christian experience, not the salvation end. Paul says we are laborers together with God, God's husbandry and God's building. Paul, as a wise master builder according to the grace of God given to him, laid the foundation, and another builds on it. Every believer is told to take heed—be careful, be judicious—on how they build thereupon, because no other foundation can be laid than Jesus Christ. Christ is the foundation of our salvation experience and of our Christian life. The Christian community should be the practitioners of good works, walking in them as God before ordained.
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
