Is the Bible complete, or does it contain everything we need to know?
The Bible is complete and contains everything we need to know. It is not all we would like to know, because God has not chosen to reveal everything, but it is sufficient. Any claimed special revelation beyond Scripture should be rejected.
Les explains that if you are reading a book and the author suddenly claims a special revelation no one else has ever had, you should close the book and throw it in the nearest fireplace or wastebasket. He then says of the Bible, 'this is complete. Everything we need to know is between these two covers.' He clarifies that this is not all we would like to know—there are many things we still ask about that God has not seen fit to reveal—but everything we need to know is in this book. That lays the foundation.
