What does 'private' mean when we speak of something private?

Private means that which pertains to one person, something belonging to you alone and not shared. Applied to Scripture, God's Word is not a private possession or interpretation wrapped up in a single verse; its meaning is established by comparing Scripture with Scripture from Genesis to Revelation.

Les explains that when you speak of something private, it pertains to one person, it is yours, and that is your privacy. Carrying that over into the Scriptures, nothing God has sent forth to the human race is all wrapped up in just one verse. Many people get hung up on the Bible and ask why God did not make it plainer or simpler, but God knew He was not dealing with third graders; for the most part He deals with adults who have the ability to search the Scriptures. That searching is done by comparing Scripture with Scripture, and when you compare Scripture with Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, you are on as solid a rock as you can get. Les begs people to search the Scriptures and not go by what he says. Peter makes it plain: do not build your eternal destiny on one verse, or you will end up in the wrong place. Build it instead on a series of doctrines and teachings that fit from cover to cover, because the speaking forth of God's Word did not come in old time by the will of man, referring to the Old Testament writers.
