What does it mean that no prophecy of Scripture is of private interpretation?

It means Scripture should not be isolated and twisted to say something it does not mean; every verse must remain in context. Prophecy did not originate by man’s will, but holy men of God spoke and wrote as they were moved and carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Les explains that “knowing this first” carries an emphatic sense in the Greek—not casual acceptance but bona fide knowledge without doubt. No prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, meaning you do not take one verse and twist it out of shape to make it say what it does not say. Instead, everything is left in its context. The reason is that prophecy did not come by the will of man. Holy men of God did not speak as they dreamed it up or as something handed down from generation to generation; they spoke and wrote as they were moved or carried along by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1:20
