What does 'no prophecy of Scripture is of private interpretation' mean?

It means no Scripture passage is to be taken by itself, twisted out of shape, or made to say what it does not. The whole context must govern interpretation, because prophecy did not come by man’s will; holy men spoke as moved by the Holy Spirit.

Les explains that “no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation” means you do not take one verse, twist it out of shape, and make it say something it does not; you leave everything in the context. He notes that “knowing” here is emphatic in the Greek—a bona fide knowledge without doubt or question. The reason given is that prophecy did not come by the will of man. Referring primarily to the Old Testament, holy men of God—holy meaning set apart—did not speak as they dreamed it up or as something remembered around a campfire or handed down from generation to generation, but as they were moved or carried along by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1:20

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
