Was Paul's gospel new or passed on from others?
Paul's gospel was not passed on from others. He certifies it is not after man; he neither received it from man nor was taught it by man, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. It was totally new, revealed directly to him rather than inherited from someone else's material.
Les explains that in Galatians 1:11-12 Paul gives his own account of how these revelations came to him. Paul certifies the gospel he preached is not after man; he was not simply following in someone else's footsteps or taking up their material and passing it on. He neither received it of man nor was taught it by man, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. It was something totally new. Les connects this to the hidden wisdom kept secret, which God ordained before the world, revealed through this man according to the predetermined sovereign plan of the ages. Jesus Christ, already in glory, revealed these things to Paul.
But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
