Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does Les stress that our faith should not rest on human wisdom?

Faith must stand in the power of God, not in the wisdom of men. Human wisdom—whether from people claiming answers to the world’s problems, science, or religion—is not where faith belongs; the Gospel and the Word of God are the foundation. From that, God expands knowledge.

Les explains that the Apostle did not come with enticing words but in the power of the Spirit, and the point is that faith should not stand in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. Les stresses this because much of it is that way today: people are willing to listen to someone who seemingly has all the answers to the world’s problems or to science and religion. But that is not where we put our faith. We put our faith in the Gospel and in the Word of God, and from that foundation God expands our knowledge. The Corinthian believers had been saved out of gross immorality and given all the grace of God they would ever have, yet growth still lay ahead; under that grace they would grow.
