Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does Les emphasize that our faith should not stand in the wisdom of men?

The emphasis is needed because much of today’s faith rests in human wisdom, with people listening to those who seem to have all the answers to the world’s problems, science, and religion, instead of resting in the Gospel, the Word of God, and the power of God.

Les emphasizes this because the Apostle came not with enticing words but in the power of the Spirit. Les says this is where too much of it is today: people are willing to listen to someone who seemingly has all the answers to the world’s problems or to science and religion. But that is not where we put our faith; we put our faith in the Gospel, in the Word of God. From that, God will begin to expand our knowledge. Faith must stand not in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. Les also connects this to the Corinthians, who were saved out of gross immorality: they received all the grace of God they would ever have, but growth was still ahead, and in that grace they would grow.
