How did Aquila and Priscilla pick up Apollos and fill in what he was missing?

Aquila and Priscilla heard Apollos, took him unto themselves, and expounded the way of God to him more perfectly—detail by detail. They communicated what they had learned from Paul: the cross had set aside the kingdom economy, the law, and temple worship, because Christ had died, been buried, and risen.

Les explains that Aquila and Priscilla took Apollos home for dinner, and across the dinner table they let him know everything he was missing. In verse 26 they “took him unto them” and “expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.” Les notes that “expound” means detail by detail, and Paul’s similar word “communicate” means leave no stone unturned so it is clearly understood. They therefore communicated everything they had learned from Paul: the cross now made all the difference; they were no longer under the kingdom economy, the law, or temple worship, because all that had been set aside through Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. Later, when Apollos was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote exhorting the disciples to receive him, and he helped them much, having believed through grace; his whole mind had been opened. At Corinth he preached and taught much the same thing as Paul, but with a more Jewish flavor from having been steeped in John the Baptist’s teachings, and many Corinthian believers glued to Apollos rather than Paul.

Acts 18:26
