Why should believers be obedient to Christ's wishes?
Because of all that Christ has already done, believers should obey His wishes and not be disobedient. This reasoning applied to the Corinthians and applies to us today; in view of Christ's work, common sense calls for obedience, speaking the same thing, and avoiding divisions.
Les explains that the basis for obedience is what Christ had already done. He says this is just as applicable to us today as it was to the Corinthians: in view of all that Christ has done, common sense tells us that we should be obedient to His wishes and not be disobedient. Paul then beseeches the brethren by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that they all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions. The Corinthian assembly, however, had divisions; they ought to have had the same mind but did not. Paul calls them “my brethren,” implying they were believers, and refers to all the members of the congregation of Corinth as his brethren in Christ.
