What is the fulfilling of the Law?

Love is the fulfilling of the Law. When love operates in the believer, it produces obedience to God's commandments: no adultery, no murder, no false witness, no coveting, and loving one's neighbor as oneself. Grace does not license sin; God's moral standards remain unchanged, but believers are under grace, not law.

Les explains that since we are under Grace and not under Law, love is now the dominant force in the believer's life. He points out that love is the fulfilling of the Law, so when love is operating, the commandments are kept: you don't commit adultery, kill, bear false witness, or covet, and any other commandment is summed up in 'love your neighbor as yourself.' These statements come from the Ten Commandments. Les notes that Paul repeats nine of the Ten Commandments, omitting the Sabbath. Grace does not mean we can sin as we please; God's mind on sin hasn't changed, as shown in Leviticus. We remain under God's providence, though not under the Law's penalty.

Romans 13:10

Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
