How do we fulfill the whole law if we cannot do it by our own effort?

We fulfill the whole law not by our own effort but by walking after the Spirit. When God's love is imparted through the Holy Spirit and works in the believer, that God-given love fulfills the law, for love works no ill to a neighbor and is the fulfilling of the law.

The teacher explains that the Spirit becomes the believer's guideline for living, not the flesh or old Adam. Romans 13:8 says the one who loves another has fulfilled the Law, and verse 10 says love is the fulfilling of the law. Nothing we can do would do it, but when the love of God is imparted through the power of the Holy Spirit and works in our life, we fulfill the whole law. Romans 8 adds that the completeness of the law is fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh. This walk produces a changed lifestyle, appetites, and thought process, because the believer is now under the control of the Spirit of God rather than the world, flesh, and devil.

Romans 13:10

Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
