What does it mean to owe no man anything except love?
It means do not defraud anyone or take advantage of others; instead, love one another, for loving another fulfills the Law. It does not forbid borrowing money to buy a home. Love must operate in daily experience, and Grace is not license.
Les explains that the command about owing no man anything except love is better translated as 'do not defraud anyone.' He notes there is nothing wrong with going to the bank and borrowing money to buy a home or whatever else many times we have to do; that is not what the Scripture is saying. Rather, it says do not defraud someone, do not take advantage of someone, but love one another, for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the Law. Love operating in daily experience is all it takes to fulfill the Law. He then connects this to Romans 6:14: sin, or the old Adam, shall not have dominion over you because you are not under the Law but under Grace. We are not under the ritual and stipulations of the Law of Israel or the demands of Judaism, which have been set aside. Yet Grace is not license.
Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
