Will God ever owe anything to anyone because of their works?

No. God will never owe anything to anyone because of works. Trying to merit favor by works puts God in debt, but God is beyond debt. He will never owe any man anything, not even a righteous man like Abraham. Salvation by works is reckoned not of grace but death.

Les explains that when a person works to merit favor with God, the reward is not reckoned of grace but of death. The issue is salvation, not Christian experience or Christian works. The human race still tries to say God owes entrance into heaven because of what they have done, but He does not. God will never be put in debt and will never owe any man anything, not even a righteous man like Abraham. All are sinners by virtue of being born from Adam, and the only remedy is the gospel: Christ died, was buried, shed His blood, and rose from the dead. When we believe, as God saw Abraham believe, God imputes His righteousness to us. It is all of His, none of ours.
