What should Christians do if the government becomes totally totalitarian and ungodly?

Believers are first responsible to live peaceably under even a totalitarian, ungodly government. The only right of resistance comes when that government commands something contrary to Christian experience and Scripture; then believers may say, “I cannot do that.” Until then, they are to live peaceably under it.

Les teaches that Scripture says the powers that be are ordained of God, and that whoever resists the power resists the ordinance of God and brings condemnation on himself. Yet he acknowledges this raises questions, including what if someday we should have a completely totalitarian, ungodly government. His first and foremost point is that the believer’s responsibility is to live peaceably under that government. The only place believers have the right to resist is when that government goes contrary to their Christian experience and to the commands of Scripture. At that point they have every right to say, “Hey, wait a minute, I can’t do that.” Until then, they are to give themselves in peaceable conduct under that government.

Romans 13:2

Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
