What is our salvation based on according to Romans 8?

According to Romans 8, salvation is not based on what we have done but on what Christ has done on our behalf. It rests on His love, through which believers are more than conquerors, and nothing—tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, or sword—can separate them from that love.

Les teaches that Romans 8 is the tremendous chapter of our great salvation, and it is not based on what we have done, but on what Christ has done on our behalf. He points to verses 35–39, where the question is asked, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” Tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, and sword are listed, and believers are accounted as sheep for the slaughter because the world has opposed them since the beginning. Yet verse 37 declares that in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Les says the apostle’s words should be our words: “For I am persuaded,” noting that the Greek word persuaded is much stronger than merely consenting.
