Why do so few Christians understand the liberty believers have in Christ?
Few understand the liberty believers have because they do not grasp the distinction between grace and law. The law demanded death for violations, but believers are not under that; God now deals with them in love and progressive discipline. This intense liberty is rarely comprehended in Christendom.
Les explains that Paul uses 'beseech' as a begging, not a command with an 'or else.' This illustrates the difference between grace and law. Under law, picking up sticks on the Sabbath brought death by stoning, but believers are not under that. If they sin or fail, they are not utterly chastised or cast out; rather, God deals with them in love, disciplining them and moving from one level of discipline to another if they do not respond. It is still up to the believer. This is the intense liberty that very few in Christendom understand. Les then directs attention to Galatians 5:1 to see the word used.
