What is the promise of the kingly line in 2 Samuel 7:12-13?

God promised to set up David's seed after him, a descendant proceeding from his bowels, that is, His own Son. He would establish that Son's kingdom. This Son would build a house for God's name, and God would establish the throne of His kingdom forever, extending the kingly line from David to Christ the King.

Les teaches that in 2 Samuel 7:12-13 God was not going to intervene in the physical element of death; David would sleep with his fathers. God promised to set up David's seed after him, one proceeding out of his bowels, His own Son, and to establish His kingdom. Verse 13 says this Son would build a house for God's name, and God would establish the throne of His kingdom forever. Les connects this to the promise of the kingly line running from David all the way to the coming of Christ the King, the house of David. Verse 14 adds, 'I will be His Father, and He shall be My Son,' with chastening if iniquity comes, as Israel experienced under God's discipline. Les notes Israel's roller-coaster history in Judges, but God never gave up on them.

2 Samuel 7:12

And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

2 Samuel 7:13

He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
