What did God promise David in 2 Samuel chapter 7 about his royal line?

God promised David that from his loins would come a royal house of kings to rule Israel, and that through that line would come the King of kings, Christ. His house and kingdom would be established forever, and his throne would be established forever, with God's mercy not departing.

Les teaches that in 2 Samuel chapter 7 David was promised that coming from his loins would be a royal house, or royal family of kings, who would rule and reign over the little nation of Israel. Through that line of kings would one day come the King of kings, and that was Christ, born of Mary with Joseph as His legal father; both Mary and Joseph come down those royal family bloodlines of David and Solomon. In 2 Samuel 7:14 God says, "I will be his father, he shall be my son," and if he commits iniquity, God will chasten him with the rod of men. Verse 15 says His mercy shall not depart from him as it was taken from Saul. Verse 16 promises, "Thy house and thy kingdom shall be established ever before thee, thy throne shall be established forever." Les emphasizes that God cannot lie, and this royal family would go down through history and on into eternity. Out of David's royal family would come the King of kings and Lord of lords, who will come as He did the first time to the nation of Israel.
