What is God's promise to Israel in 2 Samuel 7:16 about David's throne?

God's promise to Israel is that David's house and kingdom would be established ever before Him, and his throne would be established forever. It guaranteed a royal line from David through which the King of kings would come, extending beyond history into eternity; God cannot lie.

Les teaches that in 2 Samuel 7, David is promised a royal house or family of kings from his loins who would rule and reign over Israel, and through that line would one day come the King of kings. Verses 14-15 note chastening for iniquity, yet God's mercy would not depart from him as it did from Saul. Then verse 16 gives God's promise to the nation of Israel: 'Thy house and thy kingdom shall be established ever before thee, thy throne shall be established forever.' Because God cannot lie, this royal family would go down through history and into eternity. Out of David's royal family would come the King of kings and Lord of lords, who will come to the nation of Israel, requiring them to be in the Middle East at His coming.

2 Samuel 7:16

And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
